Destination Bookstores
Here are nine bookstores that are worth a trip according to Beth Harpaz, Travel Editor for the Associated Press. Read the details on the USA Today site. I didn't specifically build a trip around them, but I've somehow been fortunate enough to make it to all of these except the ones in Florida and Arkansas.
- Books & Books
Coral Gables, Florida - City Lights Books
San Francisco - Elliott Bay Book Co.
I visited this one three times during a weekend stay in Seattle, but this was partly because their new public library hadn't opened yet. I think it is my favorite. It is so delicious to stumble upon books and authors that you've never heard of before in an old building with high ceilings and handwritten staff recommendations posted on every shelf. - Politics and Prose
Washington, DC - Powell's City of Books
Portland - Prairie Lights
Iowa City - Tattered Cover Book Store
Denver - That Bookstore in Blytheville
Blytheville, Arkansas - The Strand
Manhattan
Here are a couple of international additions to her list:
Shakespeare & Co.
Paris
- Shakespeare & Sons
Prague
